NUTLOCK SYSTEM

BEATING BIKE THIEVES WITH STYLE

Designed to replace the standard hex-nuts on a bicycle wheel, Nutlock was engineered to protect bicycles from common theft tools. As an intern for the Kickstarter-based start-up, I assisted a team of engineers in the design of Nutlock, in addition to creating designs for advertisements and info-graphics.

KEY ENGINEERING AND DESIGN

Working alongside a skilled team of engineers, I assisted in the design of the Nutlock key, skewers, and nuts that together would secure a bike wheel from thieves. Because the primary consumer of this product would be college-age students, the Nutlock system would have to be easy to instal, protective, and relevant. The result is a portable key that could not only take the nuts on and off, but also double as a bottle opener.

NUT DESIGN

As for the nuts themselves, the intent was to engineer nuts that would replace standard hex nuts, and be fixed on to the wheel such that no tool other than the Nutlock key could take them off. The conical shape of the nut, therefore, is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also resists all common theft tools, causing any grip to slip off.
