RECLAIMED WOOD BED

GIVING A SECOND LIFE TO FREE MATERIALS

Despite being dubbed an "IKEA master" by my friends, when I moved in to a new home, I realized I needed a bed frame but wanted to spare the expenses. The result? A simple tired Japanese-style platform bed made entirely of reclaimed pallet wood from the local Home Depot.

MATERIALS

With the blessing of my local home improvement store, I selected some stained and damaged pallets (for free!). I also invested in a power sander, wood stain, and wood finish.

PROCESS

While not the most technically-involved project I've completed, the completion of this platform bed took about a week. The process comprised of cutting and assembling the pieces to size, sanding all the wood pieces down to get rid of splinters, and applying layers of wood stain and polish.
